PADI AWARE
A healthy ocean is critical to our environment; marine debris & un-sustainable interactions place it at risk.
AWARE's vision is to return to a clean & health ocean; as humans & divers we play a critical role in achieving the vision.
Personal actions can be as small as reducing plastic usage or collecting debris during dives.
Dive Against Debris
Dive Against Debris is AWARE's flagship citizen-science program, removing and reporting data on marine debris.
Since 2011 more than 1.6 million pieces of rubbish have been reported, providing critical insight into our oceans.
As divers we can actively report survey data from dives & assist in the removal of debris from the environment.
Coral Reef Conservation
Coral Reefs are home to nearly 33% of all known fish species, making them a critical ecosystem in our oceans.
Less than 0.1% of the sea contains coral reefs, with many of them being damaged in the last 20 years.
As divers we can take direct actions to protect reefs during our visits as well as being ambassadors for them on the surface.
Chasing Coral
An easy way to introduce others to challenges facing the ocean is via the Netflix documentary Chasing Coral.
